A-mount... they seemed to have just dropped it. Yeah, yeah, I know 24mm would have made it bigger, same rationale that was used for the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. If Canon would have sacrificed some zooming at the longer end to keep the f2 aperture, that would have been a better trade-off. I've said it and will say it again: The world was a better place when we only had monochrome?? Anyway... best way to get how something works is when someone draws it and walks you through the explanation. So I respectfully disagree, but understand, your way may vary. In order to deal with this additional corrective elements may need to be used or the lens design gets more complex as you try to bend that light more at certain places in its path before it reaches the last elements. And yes this lens provides a full stop advantage over any f2.8 zoom, and that's significant. Nikon pretty much said the exact same thing. This implies event photographers being the target, which means they will feel the lack of IS a bit less. The Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM is a standard range zoom lens for the new Canon EOS R mirrorless system. I can use my phone for those. And one stop is twice as much. This is what I didn't like in your original post where you very authoritatively said "A completely understandable survival adaption by those whose camera mounts can only accommodate f/2.8 zooms." My pleasure to help, at first I was wondering if the problem was on the sensor of my A7RIII, like some sort decentering issues, but then I tried on the A7III and both lenses had the same problem, a big field curvature on the right side of the frame up to f5.6, both lenses were very very sharp in the middle, apsc limit and in the left limit of the frame even at f1.4, nothing to say about this, both had huge problems in the right part of the frame, I prefer the Batis any given moment, very well controlled, no field curvature, very sharp starting @f2, very light and precise, I will not say a word about my gone 100-400 GM... @Arun H, it's your assumption that Nikon 50mm S lens is so good because of wider Z mount. wait for the nikon Z 24-70/2.8 coming this year. @Kris: My initial response was to a rather silly comment by DenImage. Lawny,I'll repeat the point:"Sony (and Zeiss) produce excellent quality lenses for E mount, and have done so for years". To a professional like me making $100K p/a, the cost is negligible, the weight is noticeable, but the potential increase in build quality would be worthwhile. I know you are trying to suggest there is some sort of bias here against Canon and for Sony, but that is simply not true. :The Canon is more than twice the weight, a lot fatter, and twice the length, but you neglected to mention that.Den, Thank you Den, always a pleasure, and thank you for adding those details. Where I'd need to be in ISO6400 territory in my f4 lens, I was able to take a slightly brighter image with this lens at ISO800. I'm a little surprised at all the crap people are giving this lens (and I am not a Canon shooter). What angers me is that people from both sides of the political spectrum talk about a mythical time when women just "stayed home and took care of kids" and spent their spare time kaffeeklatsching and seducing the milk man. That is it, and that is is a fact from an engineering stand point of view. E-mount was obviously designed for APS-C. Do you understand how f-stops work? It is utterly amazing how well it does it. I'm pressing the matter with the moderator":You clearly say one thing, then say something contradictory later.Consistency isn't really one of your strong points is it Arun.Den, Arun,I referenced the Voightlander in response to Lawny's incorrect comment about there not being any Sony f1.2 lenses. The Voightlander FE 40mm f1.2 isn't designed with corner sharpness in mind, hence it's minuscule size. Those are the lenses designed to make full use of the sensor (and overcome the sensor design inherent color shift / sensor shading). I wasn't in to praise Canon's product strategy. Consider the other example which is Nikon's f/1.8 50mm in Z mount. But I don't get the point of R system's launch. We can only comment on the trends that we see. Just like I don't need 2" smartphones. I have long concluded that people have preconceived ideas and no amount of actual science convinces them. This isn’t hard!! Nope.
