It made me angry at times, creeped me out, made me uneasy and I'm pretty sure I even cheered at one point. His beloved happy home is turned into chaos when his new in-laws, Jeff and Lizzie and Chloe move in indefinitely. [He did not know that Chloe was a killer. Highly recommended. Edwards is the literary king of twisty endings and I absolutely love reading his books for that thrilling twist, not knowing where it's going to come from. Elliot who was orphaned after his parent's died in a tragic accident, was more than happy to become part of a family again and naturally welcomed them. What would you do if in-laws from hell turned up, moved in and refused to move out? A few weeks after their wedding Gemma tells Elliot that her parents are moving back to the UK and asks if they can stay with them for a few weeks? Your home is supposed to be your safe place, your sanctuary, and the threat of that security being disrupted is extremely unsettling.

It started off slowly and while I was enjoying it, I didn't foresee just how horrifying, mind-blowing and simply incredible it would become. I’m always amazed how how far I have read when I finally look up from the book. I couldn't put my Kindle down! Whoa, I really DIDN'T see that coming, I had suspicions of course, but when I thought 'WHO', it was crushed into smithereens... it was someone completely different, something I didn't really see coming.The revelations, the drama, the epic-ending? Then the in-laws, Jeff, Lizzy and their younger daughter descend on them, just for a couple of weeks. The Robinson family...all so intensely vile--some of the best antagonists I've read this year. Make your pot of coffee (or tea) and get comfortable, as you will not be able to put this book down. . When Gemma's parents and sister need a place to stay for a short while, Elliot suggests they move into his house temporarily. His writing style is fast paced, lots of dialogue and always a pleasure to read. But Elliot was the likeable one, the one we can all relate to. It was certainly a twist but a realistic one, which I appreciate. From there Elliot's seemingly quiet life becomes hell. I kept wanting to slide to the last chapter to be sure they got their dues. Whilst many books allow a degree of escapism and may sometimes stretch was is believable - the strength of "Here to Stay" (and Mark's other books) is just how scarily believable it all is. When he meets Gemma, she seems perfect for him, and they have a brief courtship before marrying.

Chloe is visibly ill. Bravo, Mark! After a whirlwind romance--everything happens within a few months--they get married. I was riveted to the storyline from start to finish and there is a surprise ending to cap off an excellent read. Once Elliot and her parents truly begin to take action against each other, the tension ratchets up to a truly climactic ending. At times that realisation provides a tension when reading the book which can be quite stressful. When she asks him if her parents can come to stay for a couple of weeks, he is keen to oblige – he just doesn’t quite know what he’s signing up for. Please do yourself a favor. Elliot is at first absolutely delighted to welcome his new in-laws into their home and is actually excited to have a whole new family around him, that is until strange and ghastly things start happening all around him shortly after their arrival and soon he realises that the in-laws from hell aren't actually only here for a short stay, they're 'Here To Stay' and they've got a dark secret following them around too. He gets involved in a quarrel with a varsity basketball teammate, and that night an email is sent to the school portraying him as the face of the school mascot: a gunman. Their whirlwind romance soon sees them married and enjoying a lovely life together. Jeff and Lizzy are very quickly and easily disliked. Elliot meets Gemma during his open garden event.
