The section of the trail between Lower Falls and Fowlers Camp is ADA compatible. Will return on a weekday in the early morning, not during peak season or corona virus pandemic. Far more impressive than either of its siblings, Middle Falls is about 50 feet high and 80 feet across. middles and upper falls are beautiful.Fairly easy trail along the river with lots of nice views. The McCloud passes through a shallow gorge here and boasts some interesting occurrences of columnar basalt along the river’s channel. The tree is identified by its fir-like needles and red, peeling bark, similar to a madrone tree. Just 4 hours north of San Francisco, McCloud Falls offers a quick hike and swimming hole for those looking for something less crowded than Burney Falls. The middle fall is what draws many people to the area at over fifty feet tall and about double that in width.

After parking and a 5-minute walk along the McCloud River, you will get to the viewing area. This particular trail features a set of three magnificent waterfalls. Large, old-growth trees rise high overhead, creating a shady canopy.

After lingering a bit, the trail veers briefly away from the river, climbs some very slight switch banks and then nears the river again, now on the outskirts of the Fowlers Camp campground.

This was the least impressive of the three falls to me, but it was the one you could get closest to, and I heard you can even swim in it during summertime, making it a great spot to hang out and relax.There is also a bunch of picnic benches here so you can enjoy a nice lunch with the family while taking in a beautiful waterfall. Parking was crowded when we got there around noon as I assume everyone had the same idea of waking up early and getting a quick start but then realized you have two kids so that’s not gonna happen. You get both a great waterfall and swimming hole at the beginning and end!Overrun with young people partying with zero masks. It certainly is a great trail to take the little ones on. This raises the possibility of breaking the hike up and only doing segments of the trail. It’s best to check with the local weather authorities for road conditions.

After an even shorter walk, you will be at the overlook for this waterfall.You are about 150 yards above the falls, but they are pretty impressive and a lot wider than Upper Falls.
